Exploring the Ozarks around The Ridge

I pre-used my pto for the first time in 18 years at my job to spend time in Arkansas. I drove myself because Brian, my husband, and his friend James went up earlier and carried a flat bottom boat. Brian is closing in some of the pole barn in preparation of a workshop needed. I took off in the afternoon and the drive was good. I reached the Ozarks at around midnight, but at least I would start a full day in the morning. This visit was very busy, but we did manage to travel a different area other than Batesville and Mountainview. We decided to check out the liquor store in Damascus and the drive there did not disappoint. The leaves were really changing to bright yellows and oranges with mountains and creeks as the backdrop. Along the way I saw a resale shop and decided we would hit it after Damascus. I started seeing signs for Greers Ferry and was surprised to see how close it was. I have yet to look into the history of Greers Ferry and need to because Greers Ferry lake is gorgeous and huge and there is an aqua green bridge with beams above you. The town has lots of park areas and activities along with small town tourist goodies. I see Greers Ferry on social media but had never been there myself. The liquor store had any spirit you may need and the people were friendly. In Damascus you could take one way to go to Herber Springs and the other would take you to Mountainview. We decided to go back the way we came so I could catch the resale shop. There was a nice ace hardware along the way, and we needed some parts, so we stopped there first. The store had some of the best-looking decor and plants but had a decent price on them as well. I found the resale shop and what a gem it was! There were so many reasonably priced items I couldn't stop myself! My favorite was a buffet on wheels-and the wheels looked like small wagon wheels. It was a perfect addition to cabin 2 for extra space for food prep. I bought a sign that says "Management of this establishment is not responsible" I laughed, and it is now in the outhouse lounge.

The next day we went to eat at Anglers in Mountainview which has been a go to since we first started coming and we finally made time to visit Melon's Country Store. The store is an old 2 story mercantile that immediately takes you back with its wood floors and rows of glass candy jars. With so many cool items I bet we spent thirty minutes in there. Brian walked out with a yoohoo candy bar which is something I have never seen before.

The day we left we decided to try some Arkansas BBQ. Being from Texas we may be a little bias which is why we have never stopped at The Rocking Hog Smokehouse before. Now it will be our go to for some delicious bbq and atmosphere. From the outside you were never tell that this place has some real funky and unique rock and roll memorabilia. There is a table on the ceiling with the whole serving set down to the salt and pepper shakers hanging upside down. A circular pie counter, fresh salad bar, and some very friendly staff.

I cannot forget about the local general store about 5 miles from The Ridge. It is our second time to go there when we have craved a good ole burger. This building has stood the test of time and the locals in the area love it. The owner keeps a pot of coffee on and in the morning, they gather for coffee and conversation, and in the afternoon, they gather for cards......do not use up the table there for that is theirs forever reserved. I learned that from my first visit. That will be story for another time. Brian gets a glass soda there every time and the burger and fries are on time! Next time I will have to get the official name.

While on vacation there we managed to put the hot tub in, close the shop in, add new pieces to each cabin, plant roses, build a rock path to the hot tub, add a light fixture, get building supplies, and still managed to explore a little more of the Ozarks in Arkansas. It is truly a beautiful place all around.
