Today a nice warm breeze flows through his course hair while he lays in the Kentucky blue grass overlooking the soybean fields. Friends from Texas are coming up and he is reminded how his adventure began.
Left out on a crowded street at the young age of 10 weeks, Wilbur was always confident he would survive. With no place to be, he began to the lake near where he had been dropped off. That would be a good start on his journey, and he loved seeing beautiful places. He ran across a few houses that welcomed him some scraps and fresh cold water before shooing him off for sticking around too long.
Later that day he came across a man who was nice to him and actually called for him to come over. The man had two other dogs, and they did not like sharing their owner's attention. When the man would leave for work, his two other dogs Nancy and Ellie would spend all day barking at him and getting into things they shouldn't and then blaming him for the mess. When the owner came home he was very disappointed and upset. Nancy and Ellie would laugh at what they had caused. Although this man would not kick him out, he knew this was not the life he had dreamed of.
One day when he was let outside, and he heard chatter from a neighborhood party. There were people everywhere and they were laughing and cutting up, and everyone was taking turns petting him. He liked this group, so every chance he would get he would make visits. There was a man named Jeff who really seemed to take a liking to him. He could tell he had an adventurous spirit like him! Early in the morning he would walk down the street with Jeff, and he would get to ride in his golf cart. One day as him and Jeff were walking, the man he was staying with saw them. Jeff asked him if he knew who this dog belonged to. The man explained how he was dumped in the neighborhood, and he had only taken him in because he felt sorry for him. He began to think that maybe no one would want him, and he lost a little of his once adventurous spirit. As they continued to talk, he slowly began to walk down the street and was scared of what may be next in his life. He found an old paddleboat to sleep in and decided in the morning he would move on from this community. When morning came, he was wakened by the sound of Jeff calling Wilbur!..........Willlbbbuuuurr! Curious, he leapt from the boat and started to head towards Jeff. Jeff was standing there with a collar, a strange bottle, and rag. He said, "Wilbur, you are coming to live with me!" "But first we have to give you a bath."
And so, begins The Adventures of Wilbur................
